A ledger two retired directors actually use.

A small family construction company ran its books the way thousands of Sri Lankan companies do: a paper voucher book, a drawer of supplier receipts, and a monthly scramble to get it all to the accountant. The two directors are in their sixties and seventies. English is their second language, and they had never used a web app.

We replaced the voucher book with this app. Every rupee in or out becomes a numbered, signed voucher — payment vouchers, petty cash, cash receipts — with the supplier receipt photographed and attached at the moment it happens. At month end, one tap emails the accountant a complete pack: an Excel ledger, every signed voucher PDF, and every receipt photo. A copy archives itself to Google Drive.

Designed for the actual users

• One action per screen, big targets, loud feedback. Every tap clicks, lifts, and confirms. Nothing silently succeeds or silently fails — these users don't debug; they trust or they quit.
• Sinhala the way it's spoken, not the way it's taught. The UI is fully bilingual per device. The Sinhala register is conversational — the words a director would use across a desk, not textbook translations. Documents that leave the company (vouchers, the accountant pack) always stay English.
• The paper rules, kept.Voucher numbers never gap. A wrong voucher is voided with a reason and a visible stamp — never silently deleted — exactly like ruling a line through a paper page. Both directors' real signatures print on every voucher.
• Nothing leaves without a tap. The app never emails anyone on its own. The month goes out when a director sends it, and late entries follow as a clearly-labelled supplementary pack.

The outcome

The company went from loose paper and WhatsApp photos to a complete, audited, accountant-ready ledger — run entirely by the directors themselves. The accountant now receives one structured email a month instead of a shoebox.
